Salomon Stodel
Antiques

Founded in 1859 and since 1898 established in Amsterdam. Stodel is best known for the finest Dutch Delftware, Silver, Furniture and Decorative Arts.

Some exceptionally large Delft chimneypots intended to be placed in a fireplace when not in use.

A rare part gilt and carved wooden stand (so-called "Potvoet" ) made around 1710 after a design by Daniël Marot.

Chimney boards are panels painted in 'trompe l'oeil " to disguise fireplace openings in the summer months.                          It disentangles their true origins in the seventeenth Century Dutch  "Trompe l'oeil "painting and the purpose to which they were put.
